5 Things to See in Edinburgh If You Are Visiting For The First Time

Let me start by saying that there are so many things see in Edinburgh.

But if you are visiting Edinburgh for the first time, there are a few places that you should not miss.

These places will help you learn more about Edinburgh’s past and present.

Here is my list of 5 things to see in Edinburgh, if you are a first time visitor (as I was):

1.Portobello Beach

Portobello beach is simply beautiful. Even if I visited in December, it was on a sunny day and the beach looked amazing. This is a great place to take a walk and relax.

Portobello is a pet-friendly beach. Your dog will love it there!

2.Royal Yacht Britannia

The Royal Yacht Britannia might seem like a place for tourists and not travelers, but trust me, it’s a really interesting experience and that is why it’s on my list of things to see in Edinburgh.

3.The Royal Mile

The Royal Mile runs through Edinburgh’s old town and all the way to Edinburgh Castle.

There are so many places to visit on The Royal Mile and one day is not enough. There are a few musts like: HolyRood House, St Giles Cathedral (free), Museum of Edinburgh (free), Mary King’s Close, White Horse Close (so many other closes that you will randomly find. I absolutely loved them!), Scotch Whisky Heritage Centre, Edinburgh Castle, etc.

4.St. Giles Cathedral

The Cathedral is just gorgeous and is definitely one of the things to see in Edinburgh. It is the kind of building that gets you closer to the culture and the people that live there.

5. Edinburgh Castle

I have enjoyed visiting the Edinburgh Castle. The queue was quite long, so I had to wait for about 20 minutes to get a ticket. But hey, it’s Edinburgh Castle, right?

To give you my honest opinion it was not the most impressive castle that I have ever seen, but I loved the history lesson and I also got the chance to see the Scottish Crown Jewels!

6.Edinburgh Christmas Market

Surprisingly, the Edinburgh Christmas Market was one of the most beautiful Christmas Markets I have visited. The mood was just perfect – it felt like Christmas all the way!

Plenty of fun activities, plenty of food and amazing things for sale.
