Let me start by saying this – Sedona is amazing!
I enjoyed every moment of my day trip to Sedona; on one hand because I had great company and on the other, because the road was fun and we hiked to Cathedral Rock – a great experience.
First, I have to admit that hiking to Cathedral Rock is not a walk in the park – but it’s totally worth it. Don’t be scared or anything like that, there are plenty of places to stop along to way, and the view is amazing!
Here are a few tips for hiking to Cathedral Rock on a day trip to Sedona:
1. Bring water
This is important (as in any hike). You will not find water along the way.. well, at least not water you will want to drink. The hike takes about 3-4 hours, depending on how much you stop, so make sure you have 1-2 liters of water with you.
Oh, and take some cereal bars with you, to give you energy and keep you going.
2. Don’t forget your sunscreen and your hat.
Sunscreen is a must, especially if you go there on a sunny day.
I don’t really wear hats, but I do take them with me. If you love hats, a day trip to Sedona would be a good opportunity for you to wear them.
3. Stay on the trail.
You will see plenty of signs to guide you along the way. While there try to protect the environment and the entire ecosystem, that is quite fragile.
4. Wear appropriate footwear
Let me start by saying that I hiked in my Vans. But I don’t recommend it.
Take your hiking shoes with you and stay safe!
5. Be ready to climb, where necessary.
You will have to – so be ready. There are a few parts of the trail where things can get a bit difficult, but I have seen kids and elderly people doing it, so – it’s possible.
6. Don’t be in a rush.
Enjoy the view, enjoy the company you are with and don’t forget to make stops along the way.
The nature is beautiful out there and the view is breathtaking.
I had awesome company, these amazing people!
7. End the day in an awesome way.
After such a great hike – you should celebrate – because one does not simply go home, in the evening, on a day trip to Sedona.
