I have visited Austria many times, but I have never been to Salzburg.
On a sunny week-end, I decided it was finally time to go. And off I went.
Since I was there on a day trip, I haven’t got the chance to see all the places, buildings and attractions I would have liked to.
There are so many things to do and experience in the lovely city of Salzburg, so one day will definitely not be enough for all the Salzburg attractions.
Here are 5 of the Salzburg attraction that I got the chance to visit:
1. Fortress Hohensalzburg.
Fortress Hohensalzburg is a must when it comes to Salzburg attractions. I must second this, by saying that I enjoyed every moment of my visit there.
I’ll just leave these two photos here as well…
Ok, moving on now… 😀
2. Salzburg Cathedral
You can easily find the Salzburg Cathedral, on your way to visit Hohensalzburg.
It is a peaceful place, and the interior architecture will make you want to take your camera out, and take some shots.
3. The Old Town
You will pass through the Old Town to get to the Cathedral and the Castle. So you will get the chance to see a small part of it on your way there.
Even so, I do recommend you to reserve 2-3 hours for the Old Town, and if you are into architecture, visit it in the morning.
After 10 AM it will start to get quite crowded and you will not be able to see all the beautiful architectural details that the narrow streets of Salzburg have to offer.
4. Makartsteg Bridge
The bridge offers you a lovely view of the Salzach river and of the city.
It is full of padlocks, similar to Pont des Arts bridge in Paris.
Wait for it….
5. Mirabell Palace and Gardens
This is a place to walk around, admire the design of the gardens and then to sit back, relax and enjoy a cup of coffee.
If you have seen the “The Sound of Music” movie, you will recognize many shooting places, here in the gardens. I must admit that visiting the gardens was also a bit of an emotional experience for me.
I wish I had more time to spend in Salzburg, as the city has so much to offer.
I had a great time in Salzburg and I recommend the city to any traveler.
If you are visiting Austria, don’t forget to put Salzburg and Salzburg attractions on your list – it’s a must!
